I first began coaching people in 1999 whilst still at school, and soon became hooked. My Dad had always told me that whatever I did for a living I should make sure I enjoyed it...because I would have to do it for a looong time. So I decided that wearing my PE kit every day and making people better at stuff would be a good solution.
Over the years I have taught PE in schools, worked with disabled people, worked with Young Offenders and have even worked within a number of children's homes. But the majority of my time has been spent within the fitness industry.
Having started as a Gym Instructor in 2005 I worked my way through most roles within the mainstream gym chains such as Virgin Active, Fitness First, Esporta and Bannatynes - as a Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Trainer, Fitness Manager and PT Manager.
Since 2007 I have worked in a Strength & Conditioning capacity with/for a number of professional sports teams including Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club, Sheffield United Football Club, Chinese Olympic Squad (most successful Olympic team of all time) and Great Britain Ice Hockey.
In 2014 I started teaching courses and workshops to fitness professionals and enthusiasts all over the world. Some of the benefactors of these workshops have included Louise Hazel (Commonwealth Champion and 2012 GB Olympian), Aston Villa Football Club, Charlton Athletic Football Club, Peterborough United Football Club, Scunthorpe United Football Club, Bear Grylls Epic Training, David Lloyd Health Clubs, Fitness First, Anytime Fitness, PureGym, Bannatynes Health Clubs, University of Oxford, University of Belfast and many more.
Recently I was appointed as Head of Education for BodyPower. This role required daily contact with the leading fitness educators from all over the world and the planning of the speaking timetables for all of their live events, managing BodyPower's global online academy as well as delivering a large number of educational workshops.
'Mark Laws Performance Coaching' draws upon all of the varied roles I have experienced to help the most average of clients to become stronger than ever before and to educate fitness professionals wanting to have a long and prosperous career in the industry.
The final role that I am performing is 'Sports & Performance Editor' for the iconic Muscle & Fitness magazine, and it's sister publication - Muscle & Fitness Hers. Each month I interview numerous elite athletes and share their stories with our readers. Some of the athletes I have interviewed include Paula Radcliffe, James Haskell, Louise Hazel, Greg Rutherford, Alun Wyn Jones, Dina Asher-Smith, Max Whitlock, Barry McGuigan, Elise Christie, Kyle Edmund, Jazz Carlin and so many more.
